Precious Burger
Contemporary Mixed Media Artist
Art Teacher, retired
Precious Burger is a contemporary mixed media abstract artist whose work is rooted in the belief that wonder, joy, and meaningful connection begin when we slow down long enough to truly pay attention. Through luminous, richly layered paintings, she invites viewers to pause, be fully present, and discover new possibilities—not only within the painting, but within themselves and the world around them.
Growing up in the mountains of West Virginia, Burger developed an enduring appreciation for nature, imagination, and the beauty of the overlooked. After earning degrees in Art Education and Special Education from West Virginia University, she spent more than thirty years as an elementary art teacher before pursuing her artistic practice full time. Teaching children profoundly shaped her creative philosophy, reinforcing her belief that play, curiosity, and the freedom to experiment are not only essential to learning, but to living a creative and meaningful life.
Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, Burger creates luminous, richly layered paintings through collage, expressive mark-making, and an intuitive process of adding, subtracting, revealing, and rediscovering. Guided by curiosity rather than predetermined outcomes, she allows each painting to unfold through a balance of trust, attention, and discovery, creating work that feels both deeply personal and universally inviting.
Her work has been exhibited in solo and juried exhibitions, including a solo exhibition at the National Institutes of Health, and is represented by Xanadu Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona. Her paintings have appeared in national and international publications and are held in private and corporate collections throughout the United States. As a speaker and educator, Burger inspires others to cultivate curiosity, embrace creative courage, and discover that wonder, joy, and meaningful connection often begin with the simple act of paying attention.
